20 October 2022 |

The Linz Marathon has been a sporting highlight in the Upper Austrian capital for 20 years. When around 10,000 runners take to the starting line for the anniversary event on October 23, voestalpine will also be there as a strong partner. For the first time, the steel and technology group is contributing the two trophies for the overall winners, made from metal powder using a 3D printing process.

Continuous development and a high degree of endurance are important prerequisites for success both in running and for the voestalpine Group.

We are delighted to be a strong partner at the 20th edition of the Linz Marathon. With our support, we would like to express the close connection between top performance, innovation and tradition and the close ties between voestalpine and the city of Linz.

The starting signal is traditionally given on the voest bridge. There, as well as on the other bypass bridges on the A7, voestalpine recently ensured greater road safety. By installing guard rails and impact absorbers, voestalpine makes a significant contribution to safe driving. With these quality products, the Group is a sought-after and competent partner far beyond the country's borders.

Unique trophies made from 3D printing

The steel and technology group is contributing the two trophies for the overall winners, made from metal powder using the 3D printing process. voestalpine is a global pioneer in metallic 3D printing, in which the finest metal powder is melted and built up layer by layer to form highly complex parts. The expertise covers the entire production process: from the manufacture of the metal powder to design and production. 3D printed components are used in racing, aircraft construction, aerospace and the energy industry, among others, and are therefore an example of the Group's innovative strength.

The remaining Marathon trophies are produced by the next generation of skilled workers in the modern training workshop at the Linz site. In this training center, apprentices are prepared for the processes and procedures of a digitalized working world using state-of-the-art technologies. This includes working with virtual reality glasses and the use of robotics.

Close relationship with the provincial capital

The partnership between voestalpine and the Linz Marathon is a further sign of the close ties with the Upper Austrian capital, which is home to the Steel Division headquarters and the Group's largest single location. With this commitment, the voestalpine Group is continuing its long tradition of supporting events and facilities in Linz.
